Tokai COBEX is a world leader in the production of Cathodes, Linings for blast furnaces and Carbon electrodes.

For more than 20 years we have been improving our processes with a Quality Management System compliant with ISO 9001. The next step was the implementation of the requirements of ISO 50001 Energy Management Standard in the year 2014. In 2019, according to the international Environmental Management Standard ISO 14001, Tokai COBEX was certified as a socially responsible organisation with an understanding of its impact on the environment.

At Tokai COBEX, we have a long tradition of continuous improvement of business processes and understand how important it is that our organisation behaves in a reliable, knowledgeable and environmentally friendly manner. Furthermore, we ensure that the need of our customers underpin our corporate activity.

The ISO 14001 standard contains a strict Environmental Management System and requires, as with the related standards ISO 9001 for Quality and ISO 50001 for Energy, that an organisation shall monitor and continuously improve its performance.

Obtaining ISO 14001 certification demonstrates that we take our environmental obligations seriously and are constantly looking to reduce the environmental impact. It is essential for a socially responsible organisation to identify the risks to the environment and take up the corresponding challenges.

Having the ISO 14001 certification ensures that we have dramatically reduced PAH emissions or other impact on environment by means of several significant investments including the installation of the dedicated RTOs (Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer).

Our employees are also showing an increased interest in all “Environmentally protective” activities, taking the opportunity to get involved with initiatives that help to minimise the environmental impact.

The standard encompasses all environmental impact of a manufacturing site, including energy consumption, water treatment, waste disposal, noise and air quality.

ISO 14001 certification is a major step towards a Tokai COBEX Environmental System that is designed to provide a globally standardised set of Environmental Management procedures, which, at the same time, allows each local site to identify its own environmental needs and set corresponding objectives.

A systematic approach to an Environmental Management is essential to respond to rapidly changing requirements, whilst ensuring complete transparency and accountability.
